Makeup wasn't something I always loved - I used to think that people who wore makeup only wore it because they weren't confident in their own skin (though there isn't anything wrong with makeup giving someone confidence!), and that it wasn't necessary. I didn't start getting "into" makeup until my second year of college. To me, makeup isn't something to hide myself with - rather, it's a form of art in itself. It's just a plus that I feel pretty badass in it. While I can still agree it's not something necessary, there are tons of things in life that aren't necessary anyway, but nevertheless give us happiness and contentment.
Sometimes I get asked why I wear so much makeup whether it's to work, school, or the gym, and my answer is "Because I like to." There isn't anything wrong with doing something you like, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone in the end - and no, "it doesn't look natural" or "it hurts my eyes" doesn't count. I often find it theraputic to take the time to put makeup on in the morning, because I don't like to wake up just for the sake of going to work or school. One of the people I look up to the most is @dominiqueldr on Instagram, because she taught me to not care about looking like a total nutjob when I wear unusual makeup.
Besides makeup, some of my other interests are:
- Video games - A long time hobby of mine. I used to easily spend 14+ hours a day playing video games, and if I didn't have any responsibilities I'd probably still be doing the same right now. I think it's really cool how some people can be so passionate about it. My parents always told me that video games are for kids and I'd grow out of it eventually. I never did. I love that the atmosphere in tournaments can get pretty wild, I think it just shows that everyone is still a kid at heart.
- Photography - There's something so interesting about capturing emotions and getting certain feelings in a picture.
- Cooking - Even if half the reason is because I get to eat when I'm done! I also like it when my food looks pretty, it makes eating it that much more enjoyable.
- Weight lifting - I've always been the skinny girl, and I want to be muscular and strong. I only started about 2 months ago, but I feel really good when I can lift heavier. Can't complain about the slight changes I'm seeing in my body, either.
- Blogging - Another creative outlet where I can put writing, photography, and makeup together. It's not something I like to share, so instead I will shamelessly plug in my Instagram again.
- Donuts, of course.
